NIST Releases Construction Materials Repository

The Engineering Laboratory (EL) in collaboration with the Material Measurement Laboratory (MML) released the first National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) repository on the Federal LCA Commons (FLCAC): a set of construction material product models built using data from the FLCAC. This repository contains concrete and gypsum board supply chain data. Concrete's supply chain includes limestone quarrying, clinker, and Portland cement production, and aggregates quarrying and crushing. Gypsum's supply chain includes gypsum quarrying, front and back gypsum paper production, and 1/2" lightweight gypsum board manufacturing. In addition, the repository includes a model for production of slag cement. Future updates are planned this year to include additional cement types, concrete strengths, and 5/8" Type X gypsum board.

These models were developed as part of multi-program research activities at NIST across the Measurement Science for Building Systems Program in EL, Carbon Capture and Accounting Program in MML, and Circular Economy Program in MML. The datasets included were used as part of a data gap analysis of the FLCAC, published in NIST Technical Note 2338
