Updated Construction Materials Repository

The Engineering Laboratory (EL) in collaboration with the Material Measurement Laboratory (MML) updated the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Construction Materials repository (CONMAT). Unit processes were created for five priority data gaps from the production chains of concrete and gypsum board: manufactured lightweight aggregates (expanded clay), explosives (ammonium nitrate/fuel oil), landfill of sludge from pulp and paper production, ethylene glycol ethyl ether (EGEE) and polyacrylamide (PAM). In addition, unit processes for the production of important flows within these models were also developed: municipal solid waste incineration facility, clay, clay processing plant, ammonium nitrate, nitric acid, and chemical plant. 11 bridge processes to other FLCAC repositories, USLCI and USEEIO, were also developed to complete all previously listed models without additional recursion.

These models were developed as part of multi-program research activities at NIST across the Measurement Science for Building Systems Program in EL, Advanced Carbon Standards and Technologies in MML, and Circular Economy Program in MML. Datasets included were used as part of a data gap analysis, to be published in an upcoming NIST Technical Note.
